Tecplot Add-ons: Frame management

This user-contributed add-on is unsupported. Please use forums for questions and comments.

(Please let jim know if you have an add-on you'd like to share or link to.)

Frame management addons are a trio of add-on prototypes for various aspects of frame manipulation. We are interested in comments on their usefulness.
  • Written by: Scott Fowler
  • Compatible with: Windows 32-bit only.
    Tecplot 360/Focus 2008 Release 2: (download)
    Tecplot 360 2006 R2, 2008 R1: (download) - older version.
  • Known limitations: These are prototypes. It would be much appreciated if you provided feedback, good or bad.
  • Instructions:
    1. Download the correct version:
      • Tecplot 360/Focus 2008 release 2: (download)
      • Tecplot 360 2006 release 2, Tecplot 360/Focus 2008 release 1: (download)
    2. Unzip the contents to your Tecplot installation directory
    3. Append these lines add to your tecplot.add file:
      $!LoadAddOn "FrameMgmt"
      $!LoadAddOn "FrameControl"
      $!LoadAddOn "ApplyToAllFrames"
    4. Start Tecplot
  • Two example animations: Ordering frames, Grouping and reordering
  • The add-ons
    1. FrameMgmt - Adds buttons to the Tecplot frames to minimize, maximize, restore, delete, push, pop. Requires that the BMP files be placed in the %TEC360HOME% directory.

There is a menu option in the Tools menu to control this addon. This addon places a file (FrameMgmtSettings.txt) in the Tecplot home directory that saves the "on/off" state of the menu items. This file is automatically saved when Tecplot quits and read when the addon is loaded.
    2. FrameControl - A dialog with a tree control and context menu that allows for easier frame management.

Check Boxes indicate Show/Hide state of frames. When a frame is hidden it is simply moved way outside the paper (-100, -100). This has drawbacks when printing, exporting, and changing the paper orientation.

Drag and Drop allows for easy frame order changes and moving of frames from one "category" to another. Dropping a frame on the Root item changes the category to "Uncategorized" and pops the frame to the top. Dropping a frame onto a Category, changes the category name for that frame an pops the frame to the top of the frame order for that category.

Dropping a frame on top of another frame changes the category name to match the frame it was dropped on and pops the frame such that it is just below the frame on which it was dropped.
    3. ApplyToAllFrames - A super-duper frame linking addon. This addon is a little "dangerous" since it stretches the boundaries of what the Tecplot ADK was designed to do. This addon should be used with caution. It "investigates" Tecplot style changes and adds them to a list of items. The list grows as the user performs more and more style actions. Basically anything that generates a "StateChange_Style" message and also has has "GetValue" support may be linked between frames. Use the State Change monitor addon to view the state changes for particular actions.

For example, using the adjustor to move axes will not generate a StateChange_Style message and therefore will not be linked, but moving the axes via the Axis Edit dialog will generate the proper message and the style will be linked.

This addon is especially useful for people that want to link Zone/Map styles, Axis style, and Time Animation.

This addon places a configuration file in the Tecplot home directory. It is automatically saved when you quit Tecplot and automatically read when the addon is loaded. To clear out the items in the tree control for this addon, delete the "ApplyToAllFramesSettings.txt" file from the Tecplot home directory.
