Tecplot Add-on: FLOW-3D Water Depth Plot

This user-contributed add-on is unsupported. Please use forums for questions and comments.

(Please let jim know if you have an add-on you'd like to share or link to.)

FLOW-3D Water Depth Averaged Plot is used in conjunction with Water Depth Calculation to visualize two-dimensional flow characteristics including water depth, water level, Velocity Component U (X- Direction), Velocity Component V (Y- Direction). A data file loaded in Tecplot should include Coordinate X, Coordinate Y, Bathymetry, Water Depth, Water Level, U, V and Velocity Magnitude of U and V. It can also be used to create contour maps for source data files with the same data format.

  • Compatible with: Tecplot 360 2006 R2, Tecplot 360 2008 -- Windows only

Installation

  1. Download and extract WaterDepthPlot.zip.
  2. Copy the files to the Tecplot directory.
    Tecplot 360 2006 R2:
    1. copy FLOW3D_WaterDepthPlot.dll to %TEC360HOME%\bin (i.e. C:\Program Files\Tecplot\Tec360\bin).
    2. copy Help for Flow3D Water Depth Plot.html and its subdirectory to %TEC360HOME%\help
    Tecplot 360 2008 :
    1. copy FLOW3D_WaterDepthPlot.dll to %TEC_360_2008%\bin (i.e. C:\Program Files\Tecplot\Tec360 2008\bin).
    2. copy Help for Flow3D Water Depth Plot.html and its subdirectory to %TEC_360_2008%\help
  3. Add the following line to the "tecplot.add" file in the Tecplot home directory:

    $!LoadAddon "FLOW3D_WaterDepthPlot"

  4. Launch Tecplot;

  5. In the Tools menu, you will see a new command option, FLOW3D Water Depth Plot:

How to Use

  1. Select Tools/ FLOW3D-Water Depth Plot (Figure 2) and a user interface will show up:

  2. Click Read Data and Create Zones to load data from the selected data file to Tecplot, and then Zone(s) information and variable(s) information will be presented;

  3. Set minimum water depth in order to mark dry area and Click Update Dataset to change data values if necessary;

  4. Click OK to exit the user interface;

  5. Set coordinate system to 2D Cartesian;

  6. Set contour plots or vector plots.
