Re: Query Users on network license server

Hi Andreas, My name is Andrew, and I am part of the technical support staff at Tecplot. The problem you are encountering has several possible causes, and I would like to explore them with you. Perhaps the best way to handle this would be for you to send me an email at <img src="http://www.tecplottal...

Re: splitting a data file without opening it

The auto-unload setting for load on demand in Tecplot causes Tecplot to unload variables when they are no longer needed and Tecplot has exceeded the upper memory threshold. This threshold is 70% by default. If you want to force Tecplot to use less memory, you can lower that threshold in the Options-...

Re: Ceel-centered Finite element data file

Hi, The use of cell-centered variables in Tecplot ASCII files is documented in our Data Format Guide (http://www.tecplot.com/support/360_documentation.htm). This pdf document describes extensively how to write out the Tecplot data formats (including both ASCII and Binary). I will attempt to leave a ...

Re: Query Users on network license server

This case has actually proved to stump our technical support staff. tlmadmin -l is supposed to list all of the license servers that can be found and the status of the Tecplot features on each of them. In this case, there is a problem that the desired license server (and the only license server havin...

Re: writing integral to a variable

The way to do this in a macro is to issue the INTEGRATE command for the CFD Analyzer specifying the integration you want to do. Then you can access the results as the macro variable |INTEGRATION_TOTAL|. The syntax of the integrate command is as follows (please see page 241 of the Tecplot Reference m...

Re: Newbie Seeking Help with Streamline Tracing

Hi Chakri, You might want to check out our getting started manual. It is available at http://www.tecplot.com/support/360_documentation.htm. It will walk you through some of the tutorials on how to use Tecplot. You will also need the data files located atftp://ftp.tecplot.com/pub/tecplot/360/demo/win...

Re: TECDATA: POINTS example? - must generate arrays?

Mat, To answer your question about arrays, TECDAT is a function which can be called as many times as needed to provide enough values to the data file. This means that you could pass it a single value every time while iterating over your data. This would prevent you from having to copy your data into...

Re: Calculation of mesh cell area

Hi Steffen, The analyzer does not have a way to calculate the areas of cell faces along a plane; however, there are a couple of alternatives to get at the same result. 1. You could use the analyzer's integration dialog which allows you to set parameters which ammount to performing the same integrati...

Re: How to display the Unit of the variable in 2D Cartesian?

Hi, The best way to do this is to change your variable name to include the units. An example of this would be changing a variable names "Pressure" to read "Pressure [kPa]". To change the variable name simply go to the Data-->Data Set Info... dialog and select the variable you des...

Re: Calculation of mesh cell area

Hi Steffen, I was somewhat mistaken in how I heard your original question. I was giving you solutions to calculate the mass flow rate over an entire plane. That being said, my second suggestion still works. If you have only a single plane, then the calculation of cell volumes will calculate the area...

Re: error at loading: "data file appears to be truncate

Hi Louis, Thanks for asking this question. The likely cause of your problems is that the file failed to copy fully to the external hard drive. This type of behavior is indicative of a file which has been corrupted or which has only a portion of the original information. There is no good way to conve...

Re: Probably simple Problem with Integration

Hi Steffen, The Analyze menu's integration feature has you integrate over the indices, but the integral is taken with respect to the X-Axis variable (in the case of an XY plot). The indices are available to allow you to set upper and lower integration limits. If you need to set the limits in terms o...

Re: loading and writing speed

Hi Robert, One suggestion might be to try placing a $!NEWLAYOUT command at the top of the outer loop. The fact that each timestep starts with loading a data file as new data should have been good enough, but Tecplot may not be unloading the data well enough. I might also recommend doing this in batc...

Re: Create a data loader for FE data

Hi Regina, In terms of the node handle, the easiest way is to call TecUtilDataNodeGetRef(). This will allow you to get the handle without having to go through all of the mess of TecUtilZoneGetInfo. You may need to explicitly set the plot type using TecUtilFrameSetPlotType() in order to grab the node...
