linking multiple zones to a specific time, then animating

Postby whilbun » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:14 pm

Hi - new to animation --
At each time step I have several zones (each zone depicts some portion of the grid). I want to animate in time, which means that somehow I need to tell tecplot which zones are linked to the same time step, so only the appropriate zones are activated as the animation plays.

I am writing my own *.plt files, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

First, you need to be using Tecplot 360 (or the latest version of Focus).

Next, you need to define, in the plt file, the StrandID and the SolutionTime for each zone. These concepts are defined in Chapter 7, section 2 of our user's manual:
http://download.tecplot.com/docs/360/tpum.pdf

For experimenting, it may be useful to use the Strand Editor add-on, which ships with 360 and Focus 2008.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

Hi:

What I'd like to do now is to attach text to each time frame (eg: "Time = xxx sec"), so that when the animation plays the correct time is shown. I tried creating a text record and attaching the text to a particular zone (ie, "zn=1"), but of course that didn't work - all the text was shown simultaneously, one on top of the other.

Is there a way to "attach" a SolutionTime to a text record?

If not, what is the simplist way to accomplish the end result?

Thanks!

You can use this piece of dynamic text:

"Time = &(SolutionTime)"

You can also use C-style format strings. For example, if you only want to display two digits of precision:

"Time = &(SolutionTime%.2f)"
