Field of View Question

Postby tibetriver » Mon Jun 17, 2013 4:18 pm

I am modifying an add-on and within that add-on I want to search through a data array and find only those nodes that are within the field of view. I thought I could just restrict it based on axis, but that does not work if the field of view is in 3-D zoom or a zoom on the workspace. Is there a simple way to do this

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

If you would like to be able to tell if a point is within the view of the screen you can try comparing to the frame coordinates. To do this you can use the TecUtil function to convert the coordinates of a point to grid coordinates. Then from there you can use another TecUtil function to convert to frame coordinates.

Now that you have the frame coordinates if the X coordinate is between 0 and 1 and the Y coordinate is between 0 and 1 then you know your point is within the view of the frame.

Josh
